Every quarter, LSS hires diverse undergraduate students to become leaders at Learning Support Services.
At Learning Support Services, students receive the training and support they need to become successful, certified tutors. Our tutors are paid at two rates, $20.28 for individual work and $26.42 for group work.
When you become a tutor, you can expect to work with students in your major, with faculty you are interested in, and staff interested in education and supporting you to be the successful tutor we know you can be. There is no prior experience or training necessary, we train you as you learn.
Minimum Qualifications for All LSS Tutoring Positions:
- Must be a current undergraduate UCSC student.
- Must demonstrate leadership skills
- Must understand and demonstrate behaviors that support educational equity efforts
- Must understand and demonstrate self-efficacy and help-seeking skills
- Must understand, recognize, and show initiative to implement active learning in their own learning.
- Must demonstrate having an awareness of the value of tapping into resources and using various learning strategies
- Must be able to demonstrate having a growth mindset
- Must be able to demonstrate empathy towards other students
- Must have taken the course before and done well in it (B or better).
- Must be in good academic standing.
- Must have a minimum cumulative TERM GPA of 2.7 or higher.
- Upon hiring, enroll in STEV 96 - Tutor Pedagogy Course
- STEV 96 is an in-person course and cannot be completed online or asynchronously.
We do not require or ask for a recommendation form for the application.
