Cut Your Commute Costs – Join a UCSC Vanpool!

About the UC Santa Cruz
Vanpool Program

The UCSC Vanpool Program assembles 12-15 members of the UCSC community – faculty, staff and students – who are all going to UCSC from the same neighborhood and transports them together in a van. Trained volunteer drivers make one inbound and one outbound trip each weekday traveling between a common pick-up location where you may leave your bike or car, and the UCSC campus, with drop off locations near specific work sites. There are over 22 vanpools currently in service with route locations ranging from Palo Alto to Monterey and many points in between.

While vanpool schedules accommodate faculty and staff work schedules, some students find vanpools convenient and economical. Schedules vary and accommodate 8-hour weekday shifts ranging from those starting at 6:30 a.m. to those starting at 5:30 p.m.

UCSC Vanpools are owned and operated by the University, which currently subsidizes up to 60% of the overall expense of coordinating and maintaining the service. Vanpool fares range from $31to $70 a month depending on the distance of the trip and covers all costs associated with the operation of the vanpool: maintenance, insurance, and gas. Supplemental parking permits and Metro bus passes are available for occasional use.

Vanpool riders are able to sit back, relax and catch-up on work or sleep while commuting. Passengers often comment on the reduced stress and increased productivity that vanpooling allows. When you consider the vanpool’s benefit to our environment and the vehicle emissions savings, it all adds up to a great way to beat the commute! Don’t forget to ask about the “no-obligation” one-week trial!
