About the Long Marine Lab ShuttleThe Long Marine Lab Shuttle will not be operating during the Fall 2009 quarter, as ridership levels continued to decline for the third year in a row. Ridership for 2008-09 totaled only 741 passengers; On a per-rider basis, the LML Shuttle cost more than $56 per ride. TAPS cannot continue to operate this underutilized service. Instead, we suggest two other means of travel between the Main Campus and the Marine Science Campus: Santa Cruz Metro bus service, and Zimride. SCMTD's UC Westside Route 20 bus provides hourly service weekdays from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m., and weekends from 8:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m., to Delaware and Natural Bridges (with some runs to Pacific Shores, across the tracks on Shaffer Road). Additional "supplemental" weekday bus service is provided by the Route 20D. Detailed schedules and a route map are available on the SCMTD web site. Additionally, Zimride, a Facebook-based application, provides ridematching (on a regular or occasional basis) to members of the UCSC community. Zimride is a simple tool to help people share rides to common destinations. Zimride even includes a link to ZipCar, providing an easy means for combining ride-matching and car-sharing. Information about Zimride is available here.
