Zipcar Santa Cruz Program Details

Seventeen vehicles are currently available on campus and in the city of Santa Cruz and the program will expand based on demand. Nine cars are currently located on campus: three are located at the East Field House Parking Lot 103, two are at the upper College 8 Parking Lot 146, two are at College 9/10, and two are on Heller at McLaughlin.

Eight vehicles are currently in the city of Santa Cruz; two are on Olive Street at Mission, one is on Laurel Street at Blackburn, one is Cathcart and Cedar, two are at the Walnut Tree Lot on Cedar between Union and Center, and two are at 911 Soquel Avenue between Pine and Pennsylvania Streets.

Some of the program details specific to the Zipcar Santa Cruz Program include:

• All UCSC students 18 years of age or older are eligible to apply for
personal use; only student employees 21 years of age or older can use
Zipcars for UC-related business on a departmental account.

• Staff, faculty and Santa Cruz residents (21 years of age and older)
are also eligible to join Zipcar. Membership will be approved by Zipcar
based on your driving record.

• Zipcar offers safe, convenient, reliable, on-demand vehicle access

• Zipcar offers hourly and daily rates with self-service access 24/7

• Web based reservation system or automated phone system

• A variety of vehicle choices are available.

• Prices range from $7–$9 per hour, depending on the vehicle – includes gas, mileage insurance, roadside assistance, and reserved parking. Daily rates range from $66–$72.

• Mileage is limited to 180 miles per day per reservation; additional fees accrue for additional mileage.

• During your reservation, you may temporarily park a Zipcar in any legal “A” parking space on the UCSC campus, but Zipcar vehicles must be returned to their designated parking space at the end of your reservation or you will be charged a late fee by Zipcar.

• Insurance coverage is included in the use fee. No supplementary parental/personal insurance is required.

• Zipcar can now be used for short-term UC business-related trips (only staff approved for membership by Zipcar may drive Zipcars).

• Santa Cruz Community residents 21 years of age and older can also join Zipcar.

• Further share your Zipcar trip with the use of the Zimride, the new online ridematching application (please note that only approved Zipcar members may actually drive a Zipcar vehicle).
