Students Catch "Campus Transit" To Get Across Campus

Transportation Impacts During
AFSCME Strike

The University has been informed by AFSCME that
it will be conducting a five-day strike beginning Monday, July 14, 2008. Most transportation services will be curtailed or cancelled during the strike, possibly beginning as early as 6:00 a.m. Monday morning.

• The Bike Shuttle from Mission St. Longs will not operate during the strike.

• SCMTD Metro buses will not cross the picket lines; Metro buses will unload and load near the Bay/High intersection while pickets are present at the campus entrances. Since pickets may remain in place throughout the five-day strike, the campus anticipates no SCMTD transit service onto campus during the week.

• Limited Perimeter Day Shuttle service will be provided approximately every 30 minutes from 7:30 a.m. until approximately 6:00 pm.

• Supervisory staff will operate the Disability Van Service (DVS) as regularly scheduled.

More details on transportation and parking during the strike are available here.

Campus Transit Operations, is the division of Transportation & Parking Services that provides transportation services throughout the UCSC campus. Bus and disabled transportation services are provided on a no-fare basis; these services are supported by the Student Transit Fee.

The Campus Transit system operates three daytime routes – The Loop, the Day Core, and Upper Campus and three nighttime routes – the Night Perimeter, the East Night Core and the West Night Core. Campus Transit buses can be identified by their slug logos.

We suggest, whenever possible, that students, staff, and faculty travel around campus by bus, or by walking or biking.

Campus Transit Operations also provides the UCSC– Fremont BART Connector, the Long Marine Lab Shuttle, and the UCSC Bike Shuttle.

The Disability Van Service, our on-campus van service for those with mobility impairments, is also part of TAPS Campus Transit Operations.
