Telemetry Maps for Sub-Adult Bald Eagles
Using satellite telemetry transmitters, we have studied the homeward migrations and movements of bald eagles that winter at California's reservoirs. Much to our surprise, virtually every eagle we have followed so far has traveled thousands of kilometers to a relatively small area of Canada's Northwest Territories, northern Alberta, and Saskatchewan.

"Nipper" - Silverwood Sub-Adult Male #1
Spring 1999: A subadult male eagle, tagged at Silverwood Lake in Southern California, heads northward for spring. This unusually small individual may have originated in the southern part of the United States, or even Mexico.
Fall 1999: A subadult male eagle, tagged at Silverwood Lake in Southern California, returns to California for the winter. This unusually small individual may have originated in the southern part of the United States, or even Mexico.
Spring 2000: A subadult male eagle, tagged at Silverwood Lake in Southern California in winter of 98/99, begins his springtime movements. Based on his movements, this unusually small individual may have originated in the southern part of the United States such as Arizona, or even Mexico.
"Poppie" - Millerton Sub-Adult Male #1
Spring 2000: A subadult male eagle, tagged at Millerton Lake in California in winter of 99/00, begins his springtime movements to an unknown destination and place of origin.
"Suerte" - Silverwood Sub-Adult Male #2
Spring 1999: A second subadult, tagged at Silverwood Lake in Southern California, heads northward for spring.
Fall 1999: A second subadult, also tagged at Silverwood Lake, begins moving southward. Compare his locations during summer and fall to those of Millerton adult eagle #1, who nests in Saskatchewan. This young eagle probably originated somewhere nearby.
Spring 2000: A second subadult, also tagged at Silverwood Lake in winter of 98/99, begins moving northward. This individual did not visit California this winter, and probably originated in Canada.
Fall 2000: A subadult tagged at Silverwood Lake in Southern California in winter of 98/99, begins second southward migration. This individual did not visit California in winter 99/00, and probably originated in Canada.
Spring 2001: A subadult tagged at Silverwood Lake in Southern California in winter of 98/99, begins third northward migration. This individual did not visit California in winters 99/00 or 00/01, and probably originated in Canada.

Fall 2000: A subadult male eagle, tagged at Millerton Lake in California in January 2001.
Spring 2001: A subadult male eagle, tagged at Millerton Lake in California in January 2001 begins his northward migration. His summer home is as yet unknown.
Fall 2001: A subadult male eagle, tagged at Millerton Lake in California in January 2001 begins his southward migration.
Spring 2002: A subadult male eagle, tagged at Millerton Lake in 2001.
"James" - Millerton Sub-Adult Male #3
Spring 2001: A subadult male eagle, tagged at Millerton Lake in California in January 2001 sets off on his first northward migration. His summer home is as yet unknown.
Fall 2001: A subadult male eagle, tagged at Millerton Lake in California in January 2001 sets off on his southward fall migration.
"Seyatone" - Millerton Sub-Adult Female
Spring 2002: A subadult female eagle, tagged at Millerton Lake in California in January 2002 begins her journey northward.
