Glenn R. Stewart

Glenn R. StewartGlenn Stewart earned bachelor of arts degrees at the University of California, Santa Cruz in politics and environmental studies. He has been affiliated with the Predatory Bird Research Group as a biologist, cooperator, or project director since the organization was founded.

During his affiliation with the Predatory Bird Research Group, Stewart has also served for a time as a California State park ranger and as a biologist and public affairs officer for the Bureau of Land Management. He was a consultant to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service following the Exxon Valdez spill in Prince William Sound and served as executive director to two respected conservation organizations.

Highlights of Glenn Stewart’s experience and expertise follow:

  • Developed and presented age-appropriate natural history lectures for K-12 and adult audiences.
  • Expert handler of falcons, hawks, owls and eagles before large groups.
  • Competent in the creation and presentation of integrated multi-projector slide lectures on birds of prey topics for schools and civic organizations.
  • Public affairs officer, U. S. Bureau of Land Management during the district Resource Management Planning process.
  • Outdoor columnist for two local newspapers.
  • Author of several articles on conservation topics for popular magazines.
  • Founding executive director, Ventana Wilderness Sanctuary.
  • Initiated and implemented the successful program to re-establish bald eagles to the Central California region through translocations from Canada and hacking releases at Ventana Wilderness Sanctuary in Big Sur.
  • Initiated and implemented the successful program to re-establish Harris’ hawks to the lower Colorado River/Sonoran desert region of California.
  • Development director, The Peregrine Fund, World Center for Birds of Prey, Boise, Idaho.
  • Consulting bald eagle specialist to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Exxon Corporation following the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Prince William Sound.
  • Executive director, Idaho Conservation League during a period when the organization grew to include a new field office, its largest staff ever, and a new perpetual endowment fund.
  • California State Park Ranger, Año Nuevo State Natural Reserve, San Mateo Coast Region.
