California Bald Eagle Midwinter Survey

Immature Bald EagleIn recent years, SCPBRG has been coordinating the long-term California Midwinter Bald Eagle Survey. Participants from a variety of agencies and organizations yearly survey areas important to wintering bald eagles to assess long-term trends.

Thanks to the help of hundreds of observers, many volunteer, the 2004 California Midwinter Bald Eagle Survey was a great success. Observers throughout the state counted 586 bald eagles: 397 adults, 177 immatures, and 12 of undetermined age. Seventy-eight golden eagles were also tallied.

In 2005 observers throughout the state counted 496 bald eagles: 339 adults, 158 immatures, and 9 of undetermined age. Fifty-eight golden eagles were also tallied
