Boat
Training Program
All boat users operating under the auspices of UCSC must
be trained prior to using any vessel for their research. We typically run two
training courses each year, one during the Spring Quarter and the other during
the Summer. The Summer class is an intensive 5 day course. We allow only 6 students
in each course due to training ratios and logistical constraints. Priority is
given to those that need boat operations as part of their work or research.
Our course meets the Department of Interior standards for the Motorboat Operator
Certification Course (MOCC), which will allow you to operate Federally owned
vessels. If you are interested in becoming a UCSC boat operator please review
our Boating Manual and complete and submit a boat training application (all
found under Boating Forms) either to Pete Dal Ferro or Steve Clabuesch at Long
Marine Laboratory, Center for Ocean Health building.
