Personal Statement:

I have been employed as a staff member for just over 1 year as the Program Manager for the Santa Cruz Center for International Economics. I work part-time and I am the only staff person for the center so I am glad to have the chance to be a part of the wider campus community. I am eager to put my skills to use as a member of the Staff Advisory Board. The committees of interest to me are Work-Life Balance (as you read on you'll see why), and Event Coordination.

I also hope to influence the "people in power" to create a more equal and just society at the University that will set an example and be looked upon and followed by all public and private institutions. I see great disparities in not only salaries, but also working conditions, and liberties. For the next four years on the Staff Advisory Board I will argue to decrease the cavernous gap that exists between the "class"ifcaiton levels

I graduated UCSC in 2001 with BA's in Anthropology and Environmental Studies, and worked on Campus in a variety of positions: research assistant, peer adviser, office assistant, and intern for a biology lab. I have also recently worked as a real estate agent and wedding planner. I owe a lot to the university. I came here alone with no family or friends and as a single mom to a 4 year old little girl, but I quickly learned the meaning of the word community, and I am happy to be back here working with passion and dedication.

In my time away from work: I am a volunteer member of Soroptimist International of Santa Cruz, I serve on the Santa Cruz City Arts Commission, and I am a single mom of two school age children, I am also working on my Masters in Urban Planning at San Jose State University -taking one class at a time. I don't really have hobbies, except for playing sports (I was actually on the 2008 UCSC Championship Softball Team). I mostly like to hang out with friends, and go to Happy Hour!
