¡Es la Hora!

To celebrate our transition from a fledgling upstart to a respected Resource Center on the UC Santa Cruz campus, El Centro is marking its quinceañera in collaboration with the campus Day on the Bay activities.  Utilizing the cultural tradition of the “Quince” as a metaphor, this celebration is our "coming of age" and an excellent time to reflect on our journey and to begin the process of visioning the next 5-10-15 years as a Resource Center committed to serving Raza on campus.

We invite alumni, current students and our campus partners to join us for a series of events that that include:

Alumni Social Networking                                                

5:30 – 6:45 PM

Sponsored by the Latino Alumni Association (LAN) and the Alumni Association, this is an opportunity for Chicano Latino Alumni to connect with old friends, start new networks. Beverages (wine and non-alcoholic). The event is free of charge to Alumni, campus and community partners. 

Quinceanera Program                                               

7:00 – 8:45 PM

Alumni and current students are invited to an evening program of reflection, appreciation and recognition.  Our goal is to engage our community in a conversation about the issues that are important to Chicano Latino students and the ways in which Alumni can become purposeful allies and mentors.  This is our opportunity to recognize our partners who have encouraged our growth and programming over the past 15 years, and to affirm the locations on the campus that engage cultural expression, traditions and programming as important to the University experience.  Come prepared to network!  Antojitos and beverages provided.

Pachanga/Baile                                                            

9:00 – 12 Midnight

PACHANGA has become an annual event of El Centro, offering an opportunity to explore the various genres of music that make up the Latino diaspora.    This year, Pachanga will feature the Pan American rhythms of La Santa Cecilia from Los Angeles:

Space is limited, so make sure you purchase your tickets in advance.  Those alumni and students attending the Program have priority to attend the Pachanga.

ALUMNI can register for all or some of these events on the Day by the Bay website. 

STUDENTS can register for the events starting April 18th at the Ethnic Resource Centers located at the Bay Tree Building, 3rd floor Room 339.  Students are only eligible for one ticket, and you must register in person.
