Our Programs

We offer a wide variety of free programs on all aspects of rape as well as gender issues, body image, assertiveness, and self-defense.

The following programs are available FREE from Rape Prevention Education. They are suitable for college evening programming, staff workplace lunchtimes, and academic classes.

GROWING UP MALE AND FEMALE: Facilitated by our talented female and male peer educators, this interactive and popular workshop discusses such issues as gender expectations, the media, the definition of rape, myths and facts about rape, and what we can all do to help end rape. Approx. one and a half hours.

OVERCOMING FEAR: A BASIC RAPE AWARENESS PROGRAM: There ARE alternatives to fear, as this workshop demonstrates, using a variety of media and practical skills.

RELATIONSHIP VIOLENCE: This workshop addresses a serious issue affecting college students. Constructive solutions are offered.

STRAIGHT TALK: Become a more self-confident, assertive person. A practical workshop.

MINI SELF-DEFENSE: Covers the basics of verbal and physical self-defense.

QUEER RAPE: A discussion on the reality, dynamics and resources for same-gender rape.

THE POLITICS OF RAPE: An historical overview of the complex intertwinings of rape, racism, classism and homophobia.

BODY IMAGE, GENDER, AND THE MEDIA: Using popular videos such as "Killing Us Softly", this program explores how images of masculinity and femininity in the media create rigid gender roles that influence all of our lives.

SEX AND COOKIES: This program has been a favorite with students for many years. "It really helped me understand a lot more about my own sexuality as well as how to communicate with my partner. Besides, it was great fun!" was one student's comment that echoes the reactions of many.

MAKING BETTER GENDER CONNECTIONS: Why do males and females so often fail to communicate? Is there hope for improvement? This program helps explain the first question and provides an enthusiastic YES (plus suggestions) to the second.

EATING DISORDERS: THE FAMINE WITHIN: A workshop that unveils the causes of this modern social problem that affects far more college-aged women and men than ever expected.

PORNOGRAPHY: PROS AND CONS: For either same gender or mixed gender groups. Rated X and excellent! Must be 18 and over to attend. Pre-requisite: sponsorship of a "Growing Up Male & Female" workshop.
