SALARY:  $77,724-$94,104/annually, salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Yearly uniform allowance of $725

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: A Police Sergeant will develop and train subordinates, encourage team work, and initiate community oriented solutions to problems in the community. This position will be responsible for the work performance of subordinates, including productivity, quality of work, ability to work as a team, working relationships with the community and each other, and demonstrating judgment in the field.

 

Knowledge of:

Supervisory experience and ability sufficient to communicate expectation, set goals and objectives, give and receive feedback, and address disciplinary issues. Promoting the principles of good personnel management, ethics and diversity.

 

       Applicable California and United States codes (Penal, Vehicle, Health & Safety, Business & Professions, Government Codes, etc.), criminal case law and court decisions, and related civil case law.  Proper and effective detection, collection, preservation, and chain of custody documentation of physical evidence.  "Community Oriented Policing" philosophy, "Directed Patrol" concepts, and crime prevention techniques.  Modern police report writing methods (e.g. active voice, first person, proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling).  The Law Enforcement Code of Ethics.

  

          Must meet the minimum standards established by California POST:

 

Be a United States citizen;

Be at least 18 years of age;

Be a high school graduate or have passed the GED;

Possess a valid California Driver's License and a safe driving record;

No felony convictions;

Pass a criminal history check (fingerprints and police records);

Pass a thorough background investigation of work and personal history;

Possess the physical health, strength, stature, and agility to meet the physical demands of police work; 

Must pass a pre-employment physical examination;

Possess emotional maturity and psychological fitness as determined by a pre-employment psychological examination.

 

Must have successfully graduated from an accredited California police academy. Must have substantial experience as a sworn peace officer in the state of California and possess a current California P.O.S.T intermediate certificate.
