Parking Enforcement

Parking regulations are enforced 24 hours a day, including weekends, holidays, finals weeks, quarter breaks and summer. Because parking on campus is limited, parking regulations are strictly enforced. For more information, view the campus traffic and parking regulations.

In most parking lots permits are required Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-8:30 PM. In some lots permits are required for extended hours so it's important to read the signs at the entrance to the lot before parking.

Parking maps and a list of parking regulations are available in the TAPS Sales Office in H-Barn.

If you need to temporarily park outside of a marked parking space to load or unload or if your vehicle runs out of gas and you can't move it into a parking space, you will need to call the Police Department immediately to avoid receiving a citation. If you are loading or unloading, you must call before leaving your vehicle to get approval. Please call ext. 9-2231 and be prepared to give the vehicle's location, description and license number.

Parking Citations

Citations can be paid in person with either cash or check at the Police Department, or by mail. When making a payment by mail, please make your check out to UCSC Parking Citations and include the citation and vehicle license plate number on the check. Payments should be mailed to UCSC Parking Citations, c/o Parking Citations Service Center, P.O. Box 11923, Santa Ana, CA 92711-1923. Credit card payments are accepted by phone between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, by calling (888) 300-9966. Citations may also be paid online at: http://www.paymycite.com/ucsc. There is a $3.95 per citation processing fee for credit card payments, both by phone and online. Payments must be received on or before the due date to avoid an additional $35.00 penalty fee.

Vehicles with five or more parking citations over 21 days old are subject to being immobilized with a "boot." Once booted, all outstanding parking fines must be paid in cash prior to the boot being removed, plus an additional $25.00 boot fee. Payments are accepted from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

If you receive a citation and wish to contest it, you must do so within 21 days from the date the citation was issued. Administrative Review forms are available at the police department or you may submit a written explanation by mail to: UCSC Parking Citations, 1156 High Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95064. You can also submit your appeal electronically using our online Administrative Review Form. For questions regarding citations you may call (831) 459-4373, Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, excluding holidays.

New information effective July 1, 2008:
Under our "Courtesy Void" program, once per fiscal year (July 1 through June 30), if you have a valid parking permit and either forget to display it or display it improperly, your citation will be dismissed. As of July 1, 2008, a $10.00 administrative fee will be charged for this service. In order to take advantage of this program, bring your valid permit along with the citation to our office during business hours. After verifying that you have not already used your one annual void, we will dismiss the citation. As stated above, you must do this within 21 days from the date the citation was issued. Once a citation has gone late, it is no longer possible to have it dismissed for any reason.
