Kiosk Guards

The University of California Police Department employs non-sworn security guards who staff both the Main Gate and West Gate entrances during the evening hours. These guards are on duty 365 days of the year. After 8:00 PM and before 7:00 AM, University properties, including buildings and real properties, are not open to the public generally, except for those who are attending events open to the public during those hours, or who are invited guests of University students, faculty, or staff. The guards screen visitors to campus at night to determine their purpose on campus. The kiosk guards provide a vital crime prevention function by denying entrance to literally thousands of vehicles each year that are not eligible to enter campus at night. The guards maintain a student roster and work in conjunction with the college proctors to verify student, faculty and staff status.

If you are a student, staff or faculty member who is expecting a guest on campus and their arrival time is after 8 PM, please call the appropriate gate to place that person on the guest list. You'll need to give your name, address and phone number as well as the name and vehicle description of your expected guest(s). This will decrease the time needed to verify that your guest is eligible to enter campus. Below are the phone numbers for the Main Gate Kiosk on Coolidge Drive and the West Gate Kiosk on Heller Drive. Please use these numbers after 8 PM to call in your guest.

Main Gate Kiosk - 459-3377

West Gate Kiosk - 459-3388
