During the month of September there were eleven theft reports. Thefts of computers and personal items occurred from locked and unlocked vehicles, dining halls, offices and dorm rooms. There were four stolen bicycle reports. There were three injury accidents involving bicyclists and one for a skateboarder. There were six vandalism reports taken for graffiti.

 

Officers made eleven arrests for the month of September. One non-affiliate was arrested for an outstanding warrant and one for driving under the influence of alcohol. One affiliate was arrested for burglary. Six affiliates were arrested for public intoxication, another for minor in possession of alcohol and one for vandalism.

 

Most theft of property crimes occur because the opportunity exists. Please do not leave your valuables inside your vehicle. Do not leave your room or office unattended for any amount of time. Close and lock your doors and windows. Take the time to help prevent crime. Remember predictable is usually preventable.

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 (referred to as the Clery Act) is part of the Higher Education Act. It requires institutions of higher education that receive federal financial aid to report specified crime statistics on college campuses and to provide other safety and crime information to members of the campus community. The UCSC Police Department and designated Campus Security Authorities are required to report these specified crimes.
