During the month of October there were twenty theft reports. Thefts of computers and personal items continue to occur from locked and unlocked vehicles, dining halls, offices and dorm rooms. There were nine stolen bicycle reports. There were seven injury accidents. Three involved solo bicyclists and one a skate boarder. There were thirteen vandalism reports taken for graffiti and property damage.

 

Officers made twenty three arrests for the month of October. Eight affiliates and one non-affiliate were arrested for public intoxication. One affiliate and four non-affiliates were arrested for drunk driving. Three affiliates were arrested for burglary. One affiliate was arrested for petty theft and another for obstructing a police officer. Four non-affiliates were arrested for misdemeanor crimes including: selling alcohol to a minor, minor in possession of alcohol, possession of marijuana and for a traffic violation.

 

Most theft of property crimes occur because the opportunity exists. Please do not leave your valuables unattended for any amount of time. Close and lock your doors and windows. Remember predictable is usually preventable.

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 (referred to as the Clery Act) is part of the Higher Education Act. It requires institutions of higher education that receive federal financial aid to report specified crime statistics on college campuses and to provide other safety and crime information to members of the campus community. The UCSC Police Department and designated Campus Security Authorities are required to report these specified crimes.
