Campus Crime Summary - January 2009

During the month of January there were forty-five theft reports. Thefts of computers and personal items occurred from locked and unlocked vehicles, dining halls, offices and dorm rooms. There were three stolen bicycle reports. There were three injury accidents involving solo bicyclist. There were eleven vandalism reports taken for graffiti and property damage.

Officers made twenty-one arrests in the month of January. Eight affiliates and one non-affiliate were arrested for public intoxication. Three affiliates were arrested for burglary. One non-affiliate for possessing stolen property. Two non-affiliates were arrested for domestic violence. Two non-affiliates were arrested for trespassing and another for vandalism. One non-affiliate was arrested for violating a court order. One affiliate was arrested for an outstanding warrant. One non-affiliate was arrested on a misdemeanor traffic violation

Most theft of property crimes occur because the opportunity exists. Please do not leave your valuables inside your vehicle. Do not leave your room or office unattended for any amount of time. Close and lock your doors and windows. Remember predictable is usually preventable.

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 (referred to as the Clery Act) is part of the Higher Education Act. It requires institutions of higher education that receive federal financial aid to report specified crime statistics on college campuses and to provide other safety and crime information to members of the campus community. The UCSC Police Department and designated Campus Security Authorities are required to report these specified crimes.
