Campus Crime Summary - January 2008
During the month of January there were 21 theft reports. Thefts of computers along with personal items occurred from locked and unlocked vehicles, dining halls, staff offices and dorm rooms. There were two reports of a stolen bicycle. Please remember to always lock your office or dorm room when leaving for any period of time. There were eight non-injury traffic accidents reported for the month of January. UCSC Police Officers issued a total of 23 citations for traffic, University, and Municipal violations. There were fifteen arrests during the month of January. Six affiliates and two non- affiliates were arrested for public intoxication. Three affiliates were issued citations for conspiracy to commit a crime. The citations issued were for their involvement in the tree sitter protest at Science Hill. One affiliate was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. One affiliate was cited and released for Petty Theft. On affiliate was cited for illegally using a handicap parking placard. One non-affiliate was arrested for a having a misdemeanor warrant. There were four reports taken for vandalism which included property damage and graffiti. The Police Department took in several pieces of found property this month. If you are missing or have lost personal property (i.e. keys, glasses, wallet, etc.), first check the area where you last remember having it or think you might have lost it. Then, check with the Police Department’s lost and found. You can call the number for UCSC Police, or come in and check with the front office staff. The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 (referred to as the Clery Act) is part of the Higher Education Act. It requires institutions of higher education that receive federal financial aid to report specified crime statistics on college campuses and to provide other safety and crime information to members of the campus community.
