Women's Sailing Club

The UCSC boating club offers a unique opportunity for women to sail together every Monday evening. The women’s group has been active for over 10 years and has recently grown in popularity. This group is comprised of UCSC Community Sailing Club women of all ages with diverse backgrounds who would like to improve their sailing skills and have fun while doing it!  It is a great opportunity for women to practice for the UCSC sailing club’s keelboat checkout test so they can pass it to become certified skippers.

Monday sailing is open to women who are UCSC club members and their guests.  Here are our organizational guidelines:

  • UCSC Community Club Members will have the first priority to go out. Guests are welcome when we have available spots.
  • A boat needs a minimum of 3 sailors: a checked-out skipper and at least 2 experienced crew members. A boat can have a maximum of 6 total sailors.
  • Prior to leaving the dock, skippers will have a skippers’ meeting to discuss conditions: wind, swell, harbor sounding, etc. Also, at this time, skippers should make sure boats are balanced with experienced crew.

    Get Involved!

  • Prior to Sunday evening, the organizing skipper will send an invitation email to the Mailing List by creating an event on a shared calendar.

Once you've become a UCSC Community Boating Club Member, indicate to a staff member that you would like to be included in Women's Sailing.

Please reserve your spot on a boat no later than 2 pm on Monday. Spots will be given on a first-response-first serve basis.

The organizing skipper will send out confirmation emails by Monday at 3pm. Please check for a confirmation email before heading to the dock.

*During daylight savings time, unless otherwise noted, sailors will meet at 4:45 PM at UCSC dock each Monday, and will leave the dock by 5:00 PM, returning to the dock by 6:45 PM. During the winter, due to earlier sunsets, these times will be moved earlier to ensure that the boats return before dark.
