SLUG SAILING
|
Swimming ability is required for all boating classes. A public Summer Boating Program is offered by the UCSC Boating Center every summer featuring beginning through advanced sailing classes for adults, and children(ages 10-16). All of the classes combine "hands on" practice in the harbor and out on the Monterey Bay with training in boating safety, weather, ocean conditions, sailing theory, rigging, navigation, and the maritime rules of the road.
Beginning Dinghy: No prior experience required. Intermediate Dinghy: Prerequisite: Beg. Dinghy or extensive small boat sailing experience. Advanced Dinghy: Prerequisite: Intermediate Dinghy or instructor permission. Intermediate Keelboat: Prerequisite: Intermediate Dinghy. Advanced Keelboat: Prerequisite: Intermediate Keel or instructor permission. All classes prepare students to pass certification tests for recreational boat use in the UCSC Boating Club.
Enroll for sailing classes during Fall, Winter and Spring online, or show up at the first class meeting at the entrance to the East Field House on Campus (not at the harbor). Pre-enrolled students must be at the first class meeting in order to retain their spot. Students have priority over the public during Fall, Winter and Spring, however non-students who hold a current OPERS wellness card may enroll in classes that are not full at the first meeting on campus. Winter quarter is the best bet for non-students during the academic year as enrollments are usually lower. For more information call (831) 425-1164, or e-mail us:
