SLUG SAILING
|
The course begins with a review of the skills and techniques covered in the Intermediate Keelboat Sailing class. Following the review phase, the emphasis shifts to the introduction of the spinnaker. The fundamentals of spinnaker rigging, packing, setting, jibing, dousing and safety will all be covered and practiced (weather conditions permitting) in this class. Students practice with SC 27 sloops. The SC 27 is a locally built, ultralight displacement keelboat known for its sporty performance as well as its surprising user-friendliness. The class is limited to 16. Students usually sail the boats in groups of 3-4 per boat. Enroll for sailing classes during Fall, Winter and Spring quarters, or show up at the first class meeting at the entrance to the East Field House on Campus (NOT at the harbor). Pre-enrolled students must be at the first class meeting in order to retain their spot. Students have priority over the public during Fall, Winter and Spring; however, non-students who hold a current OPERS recreation card may enroll in classes that are not full at the first meeting on campus. Winter quarter is the best bet for non-students during the academic year as enrollments are usually lower. Prerequisite: Intermediate Keelboat. Swimming ability is required. Instructor: Rusty Kingon Class Fee: $50.00 For more information call (831) 425-1164, or email us: |
