What Does the Campus Ombuds Do?

  • Listens to your concerns and help you evaluate options
  • Helps you find answers to your questions (or locate others who can)
  • Explains UCSC policies and procedures
  • Facilitates communication between individuals
  • Offers coaching on how to deal with conflict
  • Mediates "mutual gains" solutions among individuals & groups
  • Provides training for units & departments in communication and negotiation
  • Makes referrals when informal options are not appropriate

What Does the Campus Ombuds Not Do?

  • Advocate for any individual, unit or department
  • Provide on-going counseling
  • Participate in formal grievance processes
  • Determine guilt or assign sanctions
  • Make or reverse administrative decisions
