Each residential building at Oakes College is named after a person who made significant, positive social changes overcoming great sacrifices. Students are housed according to their individual preferences. Oakes Housing consists of four apartments buildings as well as four residential halls. Apartment Living
Oakes College has four apartment complexes, housing a total of 330 students. This year, a number of first-year students will live in designated wings of the Kahlo and Shabazz apartment blocks. These six-person first-year students only apartments consist of small doubles. If you live in this area, your housemates and neighbors will be first-year students. Continuing and transfer student apartments house a maximum of five. Each apartment has one kitchen and two full bathrooms. Every two apartment blocks share a lounge and laundry facility. First-year student apartment bedrooms are furnished with a bunked extra long twin-size bed, night stand, bookshelves, and a shared closet. First-year student apartments also include a study room in which each resident has a desk and a chair. The rooms and hallways are carpeted and the windows have drapes. Two overhead lights are in each double room and we recommend that you bring a study lamp for your desk.
The apartment kitchens are equipped with a fourburner stove, oven, refrigerator, sink, cabinets and a small trash can. There are no microwaves or dishwashers. You will need to bring pots, pans, dishes, flatware, cups, cutting board, dish cloths and other kitchen and dining accessories. Most people like to coordinate these items with their apartmentmates to determine who will be bringing what. All apartments are supplied with a minimum amount of cleaning supplies at the beginning of the year. Maintenance will restock these supplies upon request. Each apartment is also supplied with a vacuum, broom, mop and bucket that are the property of Oakes College.
If you are interested in living in a designated first-year student wing of an apartment building, please make sure to indicate this on your online Lifestyle Questionnaire.

If you like to live in an atmosphere where noise and loud music is more carefully monitored, consider choosing to live on a designated quiet floor.
