Residence Halls
Merrill
College has four residential buildings set amidst the redwoods.
These buildings are divided into smaller sections called houses.
The houses are Lorde-Studds, Kochiyama, Bulosan, Gandhi, Kahlo,
Chávez-Menchú, and DuBois. Each house's name honors
contributions made by an individual to their community. The
five largest houses (Lorde-Studds, Kochiyama, Bulosan, Gandhi,
and Kahlo) house approximately 70 students each. Most frosh
and the majority of second year students live in double rooms
in these houses. DuBois and Chávez-Menchú are
smaller houses with 33 and 44 residents respectively.
In all the houses, students are clustered in small living areas
of eleven to fourteen residents. These residents share a common
bathroom and a comfortable lounge. The lounges serve as informal
settings for watching videos, study groups, hall meetings, workshops,
and study breaks.
