All Merrill incoming lower-division students will enroll in MERR 80A, MERR 80B, or MERR 80X - Cultural Identities and Global Consciousness. Your Entry Level Writing Requirement status determines your MERR 80A or 80B section. MERR 80X is the core course for Frosh Scholars, and requires special instructions to enroll. The following will help you enroll correctly.
HAVE YOU SATISFIED THE ENTRY LEVEL WRITING REQUIREMENT?
This requirement is satisfied by any ONE of the following:
- 8 or above on the Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE) in Spring OR Fall
- 680 or better on the SAT Reasoning Test, Writing section
- 3, 4 or 5 on either the Advanced Placement (AP) English Language or Advanced Placement (AP) English Literature Exam
- 5 or above on the International Baccalaureate High Level English A Exam or 6 or above on IB Standard Level English A exam
- 30 or better on the ACT Combined English/Writing test
- C or better on a UC-transferable English composition course
Exam score reports and official college transcripts must be sent and received by the UCSC Office of Admissions by July 15, 2009!
