What is MSI?Modified Supplemental Instruction (MSI) provides peer guided interactive group learning session which are attached to select lower and upper division undergraduate courses. LSS attaches MSI to approximately 35 courses each quarter: classes which have proven to be challenging for many UCSC students. Statistical data indicates that students who attend MSI pass the courses at a higher rate than students who do not attend.How MSI WorksMSI sessions are offered each week. You may attend any MSI session at any time during the quarter without making a weekly commitment. However, students who attend MSI sessions regularly gain more academic knowledge than students who attend occasionally. MSI sessions are available on a first come first serve basis. Please see the professor or the MSI Learning Assistant in your class for more information.What about tutoring?Content related tutoring is available in all subject areas. Additionally, writing tutoring is available in writing courses as well as for writing assignments in courses throughout the disciplines. Tutoring is available to all students.UCSC students have access to our on-line tutor sign-up system each quarter, where tutors post academic biographies and schedules. What about the workshops?Learning Support Services, in collaboration with other campus programs, is an active member of the Coalition for Student Academic Success (CSAS), which offers academic success workshops. Topics include: time management, overcoming test anxiety, stress managment, critical reading, test taking skills, note taking strategies and research paper writing skills.
