Valuable Services For many years Kresge has been a magnet for transfer students, and a higher percentage of transfers affiliate with Kresge than any of the other colleges. In recognition of the cultural and experiential diversity, as well as the particular issues this population brings to the campus community, Kresge has developed some transfer-specific programming, with STARS (Services for Transfer and Re-Entry Students) at Kresge as its' centerpiece. STARS at Kresge, a satellite of the main STARS program, is a drop-in
center staffed by a professional coordinator and a team of "veteran" transfer
students. Students don't need an
appointment to drop in for information, advice, or support on a wide
range of issues and resources available to them. At the center, transfer
students can get help navigating the university bureaucracy, referrals
for free tutoring or academic skills workshops, information on off-campus
study opportunities, advice on selecting classes, or a variety of other
services designed to assist them in getting the most from their brief
tenure at UCSC. "Getting a degree is a tough business that requires all kinds of assistance. I feel more at home in the community created by STARS than anywhere else on campus, and the STARS at Kresge office is a regular stopping place of mine. The staff provide a place to touch down and feel at home. The services they offer are pertinent, excellent and valuable. STARS makes a critical and pivotal difference to me." - Jim Grove, Kresge Transfer and Re-Entry Student
STARS at Kresge is located in the Kresge College Piazzetta, across from the college office and is open daily from 9-5. For more information, visit the main STARS website, www.ucsc.edu/stars. Contact: |
