  • Enroll in your classes online as soon as possible during your enrollment appointment time (your enrollment appointment time will be available in July through the student portal). You can change your schedule later if you change your mind about classes, as space allows. Do not count on being able to “crash” classes once the quarter begins. After you’ve enrolled, view your schedule online to be sure you’re enrolled in the correct classes.

  • If you will be a full-time student, consider taking 2 classes for your major and 1 lower-division class from another department (unless your major adviser advises you to take 3 classes for your major). We strongly recommend that you do not attempt 3 upper-division classes your first quarter.

  • Make sure you have plenty of time between classes. Allow yourself the opportunity to linger after class to talk to the professor or fellow students.

  • Consider signing up for the part-time program if you are eligible. If you are a parent, if you will be working 25+ hours per week, or if you have a medical/disability issue that makes it difficult to attend full-time, click here for information about the part-time program.

  • Read the information available to you, and be aware of deadlines. Most of the information you need to choose and enroll in classes is included in this mailing. After reviewing this information, contact your department adviser if you have questions about your major requirements, or contact the Kresge advising staff if you have questions about classes or issues outside of your major. As a transfer student, it’s important that you enroll in the right classes and get started on your major immediately.

  • Attend all college and department orientations, if possible. Although you have already been successful at another collegiate institution, keep in mind that every school has different policies, procedures, resources, and expectations. Orientations are designed to provide you with the information you need to be successful at UCSC.
