Dear Graduate Student,
As a UCSC grad student, you are a
member of the Graduate Student Association (GSA). We serve the
interests of the 1,400 graduate students by representing your concerns
to the UCSC faculty, administration, and staff, and by providing
services which are more effectively addressed as a group.
We defend the interests of
graduate students with regard to tuition
and
fees, health insurance,
parking, on-campus housing, and
other important issues. In addition, the GSA organizes and co-sponsors events and makes available
travel grants for graduate
students attending conferences or traveling on thesis-related research.
GSA meets
California Assemblymember John Laird at 2007 Lobby Conference in
Sacramento

What can the GSA do for YOU? What has the GSA done in the last year? Did you know:
- GSA income comes from student fees ($10 per quarter per
student) and University Registration Fees.
- 1/3 of the GSA budget goes
to ... Travel Grants!
- You may not have a department
rep... are your department's interests represented?
How can you GET INVOLVED?
- Attend GSA
Council meetings: The Council
meets every first and third Thursday of the month from 6-8pm in the Graduate Student Commons.
Many issues effect graduate education at the campus and UC level. All
graduate students are encouraged to attend and
get involved as this is where decisions are made that affect YOU!
- Become a Department
Representative: Each department with graduate students
elects one representative to attend GSA Council meetings and share
information with the students in their department. A Rep votes on all
major issues facing graduate students, and reps who attend 3 meetings
per quarter and serve on a committee
receive $100 from the GSA in appreciation of their involvement.

- Become a
Committee Representative: As an active student
organization, the GSA is invited to sit on a number of committees and
work with important issues that affect graduate students. The GSA needs
graduate student representatives to sit on committees to represent our
interests and to report back with the details of the committee.
