I. Approval of Agenda and Minutes
Agenda and minutes were approved with minor changes.
II. Committee Reports
| Leah |
The Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) will have its
next meeting October 9th. The 24-hour parking proposal
has been tabled until next fall. The TAC wants to form a subcommittee
to address the proposal in the fall. Measure 1 passed and the
funds will be used for Metro service and night owl service.
Student fee increases will be $10/quarter. |
| Dave |
The Social Committee organized a successful GSA surfing class.
An evening sail with one of the UCSC boats, organized by Allison Luengen,
was also lots of fun. The GSA End-of-Year party was attended
by perhaps 100 students and the Social committee wanted to thank everyone
who contributed to organizing that event (Heather, Wendy, and
others). |
| Allison |
The GSHIP Committee didn’t meet, but the end of year
status is that the brochure FAQ is still up in the air. Since
the Chancellor told us she would contact people, there has been no
change or response. |
| Heather |
The Grad Commons hosted the end-of-year party. The
Ansel Adams photo donated by the GSA will be hung in Grad Commons
this month. Committee minutes are available on the Grad Commons
website. |
| Emily |
The Committee on Planning and Budget (CPB) held its last
meeting of the year on June 6th. Their responses
for the 10-year plan will come out soon. Interdisciplinary graduate
student study groups will be a focus of the response. |
| Lee |
The Campus Welfare Committee will put housing on the priority
list for faculty and staff. |
| Sara |
The Single Parents Action Network (SPAN) will help to open
a parents’ center next fall. |
| |
The Travel Grants committee is still processing
some of the applications. Florence Woo currently has all the
records. |
III. Officer Reports
| Heather |
All submissions for GSA funding requests and reimbursement are finished.
Graduate student money is still funding undergraduate activities,
but the Grad Council is trying to get control of all grad student
fees to eliminate this problem. They are also considering paying
grad reps on committees where faculty reps get paid. |
| Dave |
No report. |
| Sara |
The current situation with which committees need representatives, which committees
are defunct or inactive, and which committees are not necessary
for grad reps is very complicated. In particular, however,
CLUMAC and the Student Fee Advisory Committee need
new grad reps.
|
| Lee |
She described work of CLUMAC, which concentrates on the physical environment
of the university (use of pesticides, cattle grazing, etc.).
She also mentioned that the Academic Senate was considering summer
funding for grad students as a major issue.
|
IV. Committee Nominations
Marla Holt was nominated and approved for the Student Fee Advisory Committee.
Jessica Arnett will sit on the Housing Committee if it exists.
V. Elections
There were no contested elections for next year’s officer corps.
All elections were won by unamimous acclamation.
The new officers were nominated and elected as follows:
| President |
Lee Ritscher (hoping to transition in the fall) |
| Internal Vice President |
Emily Moberg |
| External Vice President |
Jessica Barnett |
| Treasurer |
Allison Luengen |
| Secretary |
Marla Holt |
| Committee on Planning and Budget |
No nominees |
All present agreed that in subsequent years, elections for new officers
should be held at the May GSA meeting.
