SCHOLARSHIPS

UNDERGRADUATE

Audre Lorde Scholarship Fund (ZAMI)

Designed to recognize out* lesbians and gay men of color who are making significant contributions to their communities.

Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Annually, May 1st

* Out* is defined as an acknowledgement of lesbian/ gay identify to self, and or to family, friends, and community.


COLAGE

COLAGE engages, connects, and empowers people to make the world a better place for children of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender parents and families.
Scholarships for Undergraduate Students with one or more lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or transgender parent/s.

Amount: Four grants of $1,000 each will be awarded.
Deadline:Annually, April 20th


George Choy Memorial Scholarship/Gay Asian Pacific Alliance (Bay Area, California)

The purpose of the George Choy Memorial / Gay Asian Pacific Alliance (GAPA) Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (l/g/b/t) Asian and Pacific Islanders (API) who are in the process of applying to, or are currently attending, a post-secondary institution.

Amount:The maximum grant award is currently $1000.
Deadline: Annually, July 31st


Gay and Lesbian Armenian Society

Scholarships are available to all college students (current or high school seniors) of Armenian descent and who are actively involved in an organization that benefits the GLBT community.

Amount: $1000
Deadline: Annually, February 28th



Messenger-Anderson Journalism Scholarship and Internship Program


The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force presents a $240,000 scholarship program for high school seniors and undergraduate college students who plan to pursue a bachelor of arts in journalism at an accredited four-year college or university.

Amount: $5,000 the first year, followed by $2,500 the next two years for a total award of $10,000.
Deadline: Annually, March 30th


PFLAG Scholarship Programs

PFLAG Scholarships provide an important, positive statement to a group of young people that is coping amazingly well in an often adverse school environment. They are marginalized and subjected to harassment and discrimination in many parts of the country, not only at school but also often in their own families. We have found many of them to be articulate, accomplished scholars with great promise for future contribution to our society in general and to the cause of rights and recognition for GLBT people in particular.

Scholarships are available at the national level and are awarded by many of the local chapters. Youth can receive both awards if eligible. Click here for information about the PFLAG National Scholarships Program, or here for a list of scholarships available from local chapters.


Transgender Scholarship and Education Legacy Fund (TSELF)

Each scholarship provides supplemental funding for post-second
ary students who have a demonstrated ability in and commitment to affecting change in the transgender communities through their commitment to working and being educated in the helping and caring professions.

Amount: Varies.
Deadline: Annually, February 1st

The Tang Scholarship Fund

Single scholarship provides supplemental funding for post-second
ary gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Asian and Pacific Islanders students who proudly want to acheive and finish school without shame. More info email Edward Tang ecmt@yahoo.com

UNDERGRADUATE/GRADUATEt

Chicana/Latina Foundation Scholarship Program

To assist Latina students in completing their undergraduate and graduate college education. These scholarships are available on a competitive basis to continuing undergraduate and graduate female college students of Latino background.

Amount: $1500
Deadline: Annually, March 16th


Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund

Recent grantees have been active in the struggle against racism, sexism, homophobia, and other forms of oppression; building the movement for economic justice; and creating peace through international anti-imperialist solidarity.

Amount: The maximum grant is $6,000

GILL FELLOWSHIP

The Gill Foundation has awarded Semester In Washington fellowships to gay, lesbian or bisexual students who are involved in GLBT issues.

Amount: $3,000

National Gay Pilot Association Scholarship

The NGPA Education Fund (NGPA-EF) provides educational assistance in the form of scholarships to students pursuing aviation careers as professional pilots and who have demonstrated community involvement, including support of the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual & transgender (GLBT) community.

Amount: Averaged $3,000 per award recipient
Deadline: Annually, March 1st


Point Foundation Scholarship

The Point Scholarship covers a variety of expenses including tuition, books, room and board and living expenses to outstanding lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students who have proven leadership skills, excellent scholastic achievements and want to make a difference in the world.

The Ronald P. Wilmot Scholarship Fund

Eligibility: Undergraduate or graduate students at accredited institutions of higher learning and/or the arts, who are children of gay and/or lesbian parent(s).
Qualifications: Academic and/or artistic excellence and financial need.
Residency requirements:
Undergraduate: Student's parents must be permanent residents of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, the Peninsula (Sunnyvale and north), San Francisco, Solano, and Sonoma Counties.
Graduate: Applicant must be a permanent resident of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, the Peninsula (Sunnyvale and north), San Francisco, Solano, and Sonoma Counties.

Annual Grants: 4 to 6 scholarships: $3,000 - $5,000 each.

Vaid Fellowship

The Vaid Fellowship was created through generous grants from the Billie Jean King Foundation in honor of the Policy Institute?s former director, long-time activist Urvashi Vaid. Vaid Fellowships support and recognize the leadership of people of color and other emerging leaders in the progressive movement for GLBT equality. Vaid fellows are given a great deal of responsibility and are directly supervised by a staff of nationally recognized experts on GLBT research and policy issues.

The Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies (CLAGS)

The first university-based research center in the United States dedicated to the study of historical, cultural, and political issues of vital concern to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals and communities. Applicants are encouraged to apply for as many awards as they find themselves eligible for.

Helen Zia Fellowship for Social Change

Named after the award-winning Asian and Pacific Islander (API) journalist, author, and activist, the Helen Zia Fellowship for Social Change is a 4-month leadership program to train the next generation of API community leaders to effectively advocate for the community’s needs and interests. The fellowship will support the work of progressive organizations that are advocating for fairness and justice in California, including API Equality and Asian Americans for Civil Rights & Equality (AACRE).

The Lionel Cantú Memorial Fellowship

In 2002 friends, colleagues, students, and family established the Lionel Cantú Memorial Award Fund to support graduate students. It is based on academic merit, and preference is given to students in any department who have a demonstrated interest in or are pursuing studies in one or more of the areas in which Cantú focused his work: immigration studies, transnational/cross-border studies, Latino/Latina sociology, gender and sexuality, and gay men and masculinity. The award's winner or winners are selected by representatives from the Chicano/Latino Research Center, the Sociology Department, and the Latin American and Latino Studies Department. The fund is administered by the Chicano/Latino Research Center (CLRC). NWSA Graduate Scholarships in Lesbian Studies


The purpose of the annual NWSA Lesbian Caucus Award is to provide a $500 research award in recognition of a Master’s Thesis or Doctoral Dissertation research project that resonates with the mission of NWSA and the goals of the Lesbian Caucus.

PRINCETON UNIVERSITY SOCIETY OF FELLOWS IN THE LIBERAL ARTS Three-year LGBT Postdoctoral Fellowship

For recent Ph.Ds in humanities and selected social sciences.

The LGBT Alumni Association of Princeton University, and the Society of Fellows are co-sponsors of this three-year postdoctoral fellowship to be awarded to a scholar working on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender issues in any of the disciplines represented in the Society, and particularly in new and emerging fields. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to pursue research in any scholarly areas that will make a positive contribution toward public discourse around contemporary LGBT issues. The successful candidate is required to teach one course each semester for the first two years and normally does some advising in his/her specialty. In the third year, the fellow teaches only one course and devotes the final semester to full-time research. The LGBT fellow is also encouraged to share research interests with the wider campus community, with the aim of creating a sustained dialogue on issues related to LGBT equality.

Hofstra Law LGBT Fellowships

Fellowships for the Advocacy for the Equality of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender People

Amount: Scholarship awards include a substantial tuition fellowship each year over three years of law school and up to two $5,000 summer stipends to support a summer externship related to LGBT advocacy.
