The UC Santa Cruz Foundation is a nonprofit, public-benefit corporation organized in 1974. Its purposes are to promote greater community understanding of UC Santa Cruz and to solicit gifts in support of academic programs, scholarships, and capital improvements.

Founders Day 2009: Fulfilling the Promise
UCSC's third annual Founder's Day event, with a theme of "Fulfilling the Promise," will take place on the evening of Friday, October 23. Open to the public, Founders Day celebrates the spirit of community and this year will honor five individuals for outstanding achievement.
At the event, Ed Catmull will be presented with the Foundation Medal, Patricia (Porter '88) and Rowland Rebele with the Fiat Lux Award, and John R. Rickford (Stevenson ’71) with the Alumni Achievement Award. In addition, Dan Friedman will be honored for his selection as this year's UCSC Faculty Research Lecturer.
