Welcome Graduate Students

The best funding for graduate students is available through academic departments and the Division of Graduate Studies. We encourage you to explore the many fellowships, scholarships, waivers, and assistantships offered.

If you are Interested in low interest student loans submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and we will determine your eligibility for William D. Ford Federal Direct Student Loans using a standard graduate student budget.

MA Education students applying for aid must complete the FAFSA for two years. If you are starting the program in summer, you complete the prior year FAFSA for summer and the subsequent year FAFSA for fall, winter, spring and your final summer term.

Federal TEACH Grant/Loan Program
This program is for MA Education students. The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program provides grants of up to $4,000 per year to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. In exchange for receiving this grant, you must sign an Agreement to Serve. This grant converts to a loan with retroactive interest if the Service Agreement is not fulfilled. The Fact Sheet provides details.
Contact Diana Smith in our office if you would like to be considered for this grant.

Loan Application Process
File a FAFSA in spring prior to the year you would like to receive a loan. Notification of loan eligibility does not begin until after most other graduate aid has been determined, typically in August. Most financial aid awarded by the Graduate Division and individual departments must be considered as a financial resource when determining your federal loan eligibility.

Loan Award Changes Occur Frequently
Loan adjustments frequently occur throughout the year as students receive new teaching or research assistant positions and/or fellowship assistance.

Maintaining Financial Aid Eligibility
We recommend all financial aid recipients read the following policies to learn about their rights and responsibilities:
