How to Apply for Financial Aid (including loans and UCSC scholarships)

Students wishing to be considered for grants, scholarships, work-study, student and parent loans from federal, state, and UCSC financial aid sources must apply/reapply each year. The application process begins in January, a full eight months before the academic year begins.

Don't forget to apply for a Cal Grant. This grant covers most UC fees and is renewable.

Renewal FAFSA for Students Who Applied the Previous Year

You must re-apply for financial aid each school year that you attend. The on-line Renewal FAFSA pre-fills most of the answers on the application with the answers you reported on your FAFSA last year. This significantly reduces the time it takes to complete the application. In January each year, most students who applied for financial aid in the prior year will receive an email reminder to submit the Renewal FAFSA on the web.
