Every year we have residents who bring with them (or acquire after they arrive) various things that are hazardous, prohibited by law or university regulations, or unsuited to the residential community. Possession of any of the following may result in forfeiture of on-campus housing privileges, and/or university disciplinary action, and/or criminal prosecution, as appropriate:
- Alcohol or other drugs and paraphernalia
- Halogen lamp (tubular type)
- Amplified instruments of any type
- Paintball guns, airguns, BB guns
- Candles, lanterns or other fire hazardous items
- Pets of any kind
- Extension cords (without an internal
circuit breaker)
- Portable heater
- Firearms, knives or other weapons
- Skateboards
- Fireworks
What should I bring if I am assigned to an apartment?
In late August you will receive another mailing with information on your housing assignment and your assigned housemates. We suggest that you contact your housemates to discuss what each of you will bring and what can be shared. For example, one person might bring a microwave and another a toaster and another pots and pans to share. The mailing will include a list of suggested items.
The kitchen contains a stove, full-sized refrigerator, sink, pantry and numerous cabinets for storage. The college will supply a wastebasket, and bins for recyclables. Residents are responsible for bringing other kitchen items.
Apartment residents are responsible for their own cleaning. When you arrive, the college will provide each apartment with a cleaning kit that will include a vacuum, broom and dustpan, mop and bucket, and other cleaning supplies. We also provide basic instructions on how to clean. Periodically, the apartments are inspected for cleanliness; you will be notified in advance so you can prepare.
