We strongly encourage everyone (students and staff) to use the new web based maintenance request system. You may do that by going to http://fixit.ucsc.edu/.

Requesting maintenance gives permission for the maintenance people to enter your room or apartment at any reasonable time (never before 9am unless specifically asked to.)

Waste Reduction

College Eight Waste Reduction is a student-supported program at the University of California, Santa Cruz that works to educate students about reducing consumption and aid in the recycling of ink cartridges, hazardous wastes, electronics, light bulbs, glasses, metals, plastics and paper.
Waste Reduction at College Eight conducts a weekly pick-up of compostable scraps from the resident apartments and College Cafe, as well as recycling the discarded college mail. The program diverts a significant volume of materials from disposal on a daily basis through plastic, glass, and mixed paper recycling centers maintained throughout the college and contributes to waste reduction awareness and implementation on the University campus. Student run since 1996, our main focus is educating students about waste management. Waste reduction challenges the patterns of wasteful living/consumption that are present in our society, and by preserving a student recycling program at College Eight, the program seeks to encourage thoughtful consumption in our community and beyond.

For problems that require immediate attention, such as flooding (possibly caused by a broken pipe) or door lock not working, contact your CSO Officers.
