Academic Advising

The College Eight Advising staff seeks to assist our students in utilizing the educational resources and opportunities available to them and aid them in making the most of their undergraduate experience.  We strive to educate, empower, and motivate students to become independent, self-directed participants in their own education. In carrying out our mission, the College Eight Advising Team incorporates the following objectives and goals:

• To build community within a holistic framework by maintaining open communication with the various College Eight sub-units and community members directly affecting student success, such as the College Provost, Residential Life, Student Programs & Activities, and Psychological Services.
• Acknowledge, support and encourage the wide range of diversity in our student population.
• Support students in the clarification of their long-term educational goals and objectives and direct them to appropriate resources to assist them in the development and implementation of suitable educational plans.
• Facilitate the retention and timely graduation of our students by monitoring their academic progress and standing, assisting with course selection for completion of requirements, and providing guidance for exploring and selecting their major(s).
• Act as a conduit of information for students regarding the interpretation and implementation of UCSC academic requirements and procedures.  Intrinsic to this goal, we are committed to insuring that the information we communicate to students is both timely and accurate.
• Foster and maintain relationships between "students and advisors, students and the institution, and advisors and the institution".  Present a broad perspective within the University for guidance across the curriculum in cooperation with many UCSC student programs.
