The mission of the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) is to protect the people of California from unlawful discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations, and from the perpetration of acts of hate violence.
The Department of Fair Employment and Housing maintains the authority to investigate complaints of discrimination in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations and hate violence. Persons may file a charge of discrimination with DFEH at http://www.dfeh.ca.gov/complaints/
EEOC was created in the historic Civil Rights Act of 1964. This Act was an omnibus bill addressing not only discrimination in employment, but also discrimination in voting, public accommodations, and education as well. EEOC's mission is to "…promote equality of opportunity in the workplace and enforce Federal laws prohibiting employment discrimination." It is guided by their vision of "A strong and prosperous nation secured through a fair and inclusive workplace."
Any individual who believes that his or her employment rights have been violated may file a charge of discrimination with EEOC at http://www.eeoc.gov/sanjose/index.html
