Consultations
Requesting
a Consultation
For staff, faculty, student employees and applicants
UC
Santa Cruz is committed to enacting the Principles
of Community, resolving conflicts and preventing complaints
using an educational approach and by provision of consultation
services to employees and managers alike.
EEO/AA
staff are available to assist individuals, managers, units and
principal officers seeking impartial advice or assistance strengthening
management best practices and in resolving workplace issues, conflicts
or complaints that may involve discrimination or workplace diversity
issues.
Often
employees and applicants meet with EEO/AA staff to consult about
concerns that they think might be related to diversity, discrimination
or retaliation. These consultations are aimed at clarifying issues
and identifying appropriate actions, possible solutions and available
resources. The consultation process is frequently used by employees
or applicants to assist in decision-making; to help them decide
whether or not they wish to file a complaint or use other processes
to address concerns or resolve conflicts. Issues and disputes
that are not EEO/AA related may be referred to the Ombuds Office
unless there is reason to believe that there will be value added
by EEO/AA participation.
Consultation
processes may include: phone or in-person intake and follow-up
meetings, advice, advocacy*, counseling, provision of resources
including relevant campus policies and procedures, referrals,
training, and facilitation of conflict resolution meetings.
EEO/AA
consultations may be about issues related to protections under
University of California, state and federal nondiscrimination
policies and laws including but not limited to:
Race/Color
National Origin
Disability
Age
Sex, Gender, Gender Identity
Sexual Orientation
Religion
Veteran Status
Retaliation
*While
the EEO/AA office strives to remain impartial, staff do advocate
for: upholding the campus Principles of Community; Title VII and
other aspects of nondiscrimination and Civil Rights law; the integrity
of campus processes and policies; and for promotion and implementation
of best management practices.
By
engaging in a consultation process, individuals do not give up
their right to file an internal complaint; this can be done at
any time.
