My last dream was very strange. You know when you are driving down the highway and the road sort of cuts through a hill exposing layers of rock or something? Well, replace the road with a rushing river. In my dream there was a raging river cutting deeply through a hill of soft, dark earth that reminded me of coffee grounds. On either side of the river there was a small ledge about two feet above the water and about a foot wide. I was on one side while someone, I think it was a male about 17 years old with sandy blond hair. He was part of a group, which was hiking. For some reason, I had been able to cross the stream while the rest of the group could not. I felt alone. I was trying to think of a way to get him and the rest of the group (out of sight) across while trying to keep my balance on the crumbly, narrow ledge. In the middle of the river, there was a pile of twigs, leaves, generally things that had been floating down the river and had gotten caught on something under water. All of a sudden a body came floating down the river and caught in the twigs. The body was a male, early 20's, sandy or red hair, wearing light blue jeans and a ribbed, dark blue sweater. I forgot everything and stared at the body bobbing back and forth in the currents. I knew I was dreaming, and tried to wake up, but found I could not. My eyes were locked on the body. I struggled to wake up, feeling as though my mind were struggling and fighting within a dark space. A dark cage, my body. Occasionally, my mind would flash upon a different scene, a tortured face fighting and kicking in a dark space. Then I would return to the dream. Finally, I woke up. I felt afraid. I was afraid to go back to sleep. Finally though, I did. (339 words)
