Providing AccommodationsThe UCSC ADA Compliance website has a list of commonly requested accommodations. Some of these are easily addressed. For an example, if a person with a visual impairment needs an enlarged copy of your brochure, you can do this on your office copy machine, or send an e-mail version to the consumer which can be enlarged on a personal computer. Similarly, if an individual with stamina difficulties cannot stand in line, you can easily accommodate by allowing that person to come to the front of the line. You are encouraged to review the list of commonly requested accommodations to better prepare your office for accessibility. It will help you determine which accommodations you know how to provide and which ones you have questions about. After reviewing the common requests, see the ADA Compliance’s Access to Facilities page for specific tips on how to provide accommodations. If, after viewing these two links, you are still uncertain how to provide a particular accommodation, do not hesitate to contact the Disability Resource Center at 831- 459-2089 for consultation. Note: Accommodations are made at the request of the person with a disability. It is the responsibility of the individual with a disability to let you know what specific accommodation she is requesting. A common mistake is to assume or guess what the person with a disability needs. The person making the request is the expert regarding his disability. If you are uncertain about the needs of the requestor, ask him. Other Helpful Information:Wheelchair RentalsUCSC does not have wheelchairs available for public use. At graduations and other campus events, it is not uncommon for guests to inquire about the use of a wheelchair. If a guest needs a wheelchair, you can refer them to Horsynder Pharmacy to rent their own. You can also direct them to the Disability Van and Disabled Parking (see links above).
