Punctuality, reliability and excellent communication skills are essential. Must also be discreet with confidential information, work well with a diverse population (especially students with disabilities), and with little or no supervision. DRC Assistants should be able to adapt writing, reading, and communication styles to meet student's needs. DRC Assistants may do one or any combination of the following:
This position is on-call, and there is not a guarantee of a specific number of work hours per week. Prospective student employees must contact the DRC office to reserve a place in the mandatory group hire and paid training sessions; they may also be asked to provide samples of their work. DRC Assistants who proofread and type for students must provide unbiased assistance without making editorial changes or personal judgments. Finished assignments must be accurate and complete with no misquotes, misinterpretations or omissions. Source material can include lectures, visual presentations, books, articles, papers, readers, library research, forms etc. As a scribe, the DRC Assistant writes verbatim what the student dictates.
