Students contact CAPS for a wide range of reasons, including stress, depression, anxiety, eating and body image concerns, grief and loss, substance abuse, issues related to oppression, discrimination or harassment, personal identity issues, recovery from trauma, relationship concerns, family or academic problems, transitions or simply adjusting to the complex demands of university life. We’re here to assist with any personal concerns that affect your well-being and your education. Family, friends, faculty or staff members who are concerned about a student are welcome to call CAPS for consultation.

Eligibility

All currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students at the University of California at Santa Cruz are eligible to utilize on-campus counseling services. Students who are UC Extension students are not eligible for CAPS services.

How To Make An Appointment

The way to make a first time appointment is to call the CAPS Central Office at (831) 459-2628 and you will be assisted by one of the front office staff, at which time you will be given an appointment for a brief phone assessment by one of our staff. The CAPS Central Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. The other way to make an appointment with a specific CAPS staff member is to call that staff member directly - see CAPS Staff. It is the prerogative of the CAPS staff member either to accept the referral directly or to redirect the request to the CAPS Central Office
