Information For Faculty
And Staff The staff of UCSC Counseling and Psychological Services welcomes you to the We want to take this opportunity to tell you about the services available to the UCSC community through Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS). As faculty and staff who work closely with students, you may have occasion to make referrals to our services. In addition, there may be times when you have concerns about a student and want to consult with a Psychologist. CPS provides the UCSC community with a wide range of mental health services, including short-term individual and couples counseling, group counseling, crisis assessment and intervention, and referral services. Students contact CPS for a wide range of reasons, including stress, depression, anxiety, eating and body image concerns, grief and loss, substance abuse, issues related to oppression, discrimination or harassment, personal identity issues, recovery from trauma, relationship concerns, family or academic problems, transitions or simply adjusting to the complex demands of university life. Counseling services are confidential and available free of charge to all registered UCSC students. For more urgent matters or if a student is in crisis, we offer a crisis service at the Cowell Student Health Center. You can call the Central Office at 459-2628 or refer to our webpage (www2.ucsc.edu/counsel) for additional information about these and other services. CPS staff are situated in various locations on campus, including the Colleges, Family Student Housing, and Kresge Annex B. In order for a student to schedule a first appointment, they must go to or call the CPS Central Office at the Student Health Center. Students will be informed about the location of their therapist when the appointment is scheduled. As a staff or faculty member, CPS can offer you assistance if you have a concern about a distressed student. Please see the http://www2.ucsc.edu/counsel/info_faq_staff_guide.html link for on-line information about suggestions on how to assist a student in distress. You are also welcome to call our central office at (831) 459-2628 for consultation from a CPS staff member. We would like to provide you some available resources for students in distress.
Wishing you all the best for the coming year! The following resources are offered to assist staff and faculty in working with UCSC students.
