Services for Current UCSC Students
|
- On-Campus and Off-Campus Student Employment Listings
All jobs are listed on the Career Center's web site http://www2.ucsc.edu/careers/jobs.
On-Campus jobs (both work-study and non work-study) and off-campus
work-study jobs must be applied for via the on-line Employee
Request System. Off-Campus, local, part-time paid jobs are
also available via the Employee Request System and are listed
under the "Community Jobs" link.
- Job & Internship Listings through SlugQuest
UCSC is contracted with NACElink to manage job listings and
internships. Job seekers may search the database 24 hours a day,
upload and post resumes online and access numerous career resources.
Students should begin by registering via the Career Center's SlugQuest.
Job listings may be viewed through the SlugQuest online system.
- Career Center's Intern Connection
The UCSC Career Center maintains a database with hundreds of internships
available in the US and abroad. Visit the Intern
Connection to view the listings. The Career Center resource
library has numerous directories on internship opportunities throughout
the U.S. and International. Additional internship information
is available at http://intern.ucsc.edu.
- Chancellor's Undergraduate Internship Program (CUIP) &
Professions Training Program (PTP)
These two special internship programs are designed to give
undergraduate students pre-professional experience in their areas
of interest. Both are paid programs. Check out the web sites for
details on both programs http://intern.ucsc.edu.
- Career Advising
Professional career advisers are available through our Drop-In
Advising Program or by individual appointment. Advisers can assist
with choosing a major, applying to graduate/professional school,
creating a resume, interviewing skills, selecting an internship,
career assessment and the job search process. Check the Career
Center's Career News for advising
hours.
- On-Campus Job Interviews
Organizations and companies come to the Career Center to interview
and hire students during their last year in college. Occasionally
companies recruit for internship positions as well. The interview
schedule is posted on the web site and is available at the
Career Center office.
- Career Workshops
Career workshops on Resume & Cover Letter Writing, Job Interviewing
Techniques, Graduate School Application Process, and Selecting
an Internship are offered each quarter. In addition, watch the
Career Center's Career News for special
focus workshops dealing with specific careers and/or majors.
- Career Resource Library and Computer Lab
A comprehensive library is available to students on topics
dealing with career assessment, the job search, interviewing,
resume development, graduate school, internships and specific
career fields. The computer lab allows students to apply online
for jobs and search career resource materials.
- Graduate Reference Letter Service (GRLS)
The GRLS allows graduate
and professional school applicants to store their letters of recommendation
for up to five years and have them sent to graduate school programs
when they wish to apply. Information on this service is available
at http://www2.ucsc.edu/careers/letters/grls.html
- Job Fairs and the Graduate/Professional School Fair
Job Fairs are offered in the Fall and Spring. The Business,
Science and Engineering Job and Internship Fair is held in Fall
quarter; and the Last Chance Fair is held in Spring quarter. The
Graduate/Professional School Fair is held in Fall quarter. Check
out the Career Center's Upcoming
Events for their schedule.
- Career Advice Network
The Career Advice
Network (CAN for short) is a group of professionals from various
career fields who understand the value of "informational networking".
Consisting primarily (but not exclusively) of UC Santa Cruz alumni,
the members of the network help by sharing valuable information
with current UCSC students and alumni.
Students and alumni are able to learn from "direct sources" about
a profession in which they might be interested. Connecting with
the CAN members can be quite rewarding. Some of the things you
might ask about are: educational preparation, job responsibilities,
resume preparation, tips on breaking into the field, and leads
to other resources.
It is important to note that this is not a job service, but it
is a valuable network used for making contacts, and learning about
what is happening within a particular profession.
The hundreds of members of the network have volunteered to answer
questions and give career advice pertaining to their particular
career field. Member profiles and contact information are kept
in our in-house database and made available only to our students
and alumni.
"People" are your most important resource when it comes to getting
help with your career development. The Career Advice Network is
a group of people willing and waiting to help.
To use the CAN program make sure to look at the Informational
Interviewing Guide. It will help you prepare for your informational
call or meeting.
