Career Assessments at UCSC

Are you unsure about a career choice? Have you wondered what you can pursue with your UCSC major? Are you unsure of which major to choose? The UCSC Career Center offers three career assessments that can help you gain clarity about these issues. These assessments can be taken individually or together.

Come in for career advising to arrange to complete any of the following assessments. Once you have taken one or more of these assessments, a career advisor will meet with you to provide you with feedback on your results.

1. Career Development Plan and Workbook (no cost)
This workbook provides exercises that assess your interests, values, and skills which will help you determine what career paths may be appropriate for you. You may download a copy of the Workbook (Career Development Plan and Workbook), but schedule a meeting with a career advisor to discuss your results.

2. Strong Interest Inventory – takes about 35 minutes ($15 cost)
Identifies your areas of interests as well as occupations and majors (if applicable) that you may be interested in pursuing. This assessment is provided on line, and you must first meet with a career advisor to get the web site address and password to access it.

3. Myers Briggs Type Indicator - takes about 35 min. ($15 cost)
A personality preference assessment based on Carl Jung's, a psychoanalyst, theories. The results indicate which one of sixteen personality types you are and conveys career possibilities for you and criteria you need to make your career satisfying. This assessment is provided on line, and you must first meet with a career advisor to get the web site address and password to access it.
