Language Studies |
| Languages are systems
for communicating human ideas, feelings and experiences. Knowledge
of multiple languages extends potential communication to other cultures
and other parts of the world. While developing fluency in a language,
modern language majors study the literature and culture of people
speaking the language. Travel and study abroad may also be involved.
“Language is a city to the building of which every human being
brought a stone. “ - Ralph Waldo Emerson
“I am always sorry when any language is lost, because languages
are the pedigrees of nations.” - Samuel Johnson
“Language is the inventory of human experience.” - L.
W. Lockhart
"Language is a steed which carries one into a far country."
-Arab Proverb
"When we study language, we are approaching what some might
call the 'human essence', the distinctive qualities of the mind
that are, so far as we know, unique to man." - Noam Chomsky |
