Marisol Ortiz, Fall '07 Intern
My name is Marisol Ortiz-Melendrez, a sophomore at Oakes college. I am Native American, affiliated with the Crow Nation as well as Puerto Rican. I am rooted in Oakland and have great pride in where i am from. While at Santa Cruz I am pursuing a degree in legal studies and Education, as well as helping to obtain/sustain a Native voice and community on our campus.
2007-2008 Internship Responsibilities
-5 Unit Internship: 8-10 hours per week, 6-8 pages of critical reflection paper.
-2 Unit Internship: 4-6 hours per week, 3-4 pages critical reflection paper.
Interns will coordinate quarterly programs and projects, such as quarterly Receptions, Full Circle Mentor program events, editing of the quarterly newsletter, and are expected to develop and implement individually or as a group a project (For example a native American outreach Day for high school students). Interns develop and edit resource guide and assists with the updating of AIRC Website.
Qualifications:
- Experience with and knowledge of American Indian issues, campus Native American community and student organizations.
- Ability to interact with diverse staff and students.
- Responsible, resourceful and posses initiative.
- Ability to work collectively with other AIRC staff and other interns
