The Academic Personnel Office's Mission to the University of California at Santa Cruz

 
The mission of the Academic Personnel Office is to facilitate the recruitment, appointment, advancement, and retention of the most qualified and diverse faculty and academic appointees possible. The Academic Personnel Office provides leadership and oversight of academic policy and procedures in a manner that supports the overall academic goals and objectives of the Administration and the Academic Senate consistent with the campus Principles of Community.

Staff and their role descriptions so you know who to contact:

Pamela Peterson is the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel and campus Senior Management Group (SMG) Coordinator. She oversees the entire Academic personnel operation. Academic Personnel is a sub-unit of the campus Provost’s Office. This position oversees a team of people that work collaboratively to: provide high-level analytical support to the Chancellor, Campus Provost, deans, department chairs and their designees; supply information, interpretation and recommendations related to academic personnel policies and faculty relations issues; develop new campus and system wide procedures and practices; and develop and deliver training programs for academic personnel administration. AVC Peterson also oversees the monitoring of compensation for members of the Senior Leadership Compensation Group (SLCG.)

Denice Barnes is a Senior Analyst in Academic Personnel. Denice oversees academic recruitments including issues of diversity and recruitment policy. She is also responsible for department chair and new faculty trainings.

Terilynn Bench is the Senior Operations Analyst and Executive Assistant to the Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Academic Personnel. Terilynn is responsible for providing high-level support to the campus Senior Management Group (SMG) coordinator, and is also responsible for budget and personnel management for the unit. She also serves as the IIPP coordinator, and provides analysis and direct assistance to the AVC on specific issues.

Elizabeth Dane is a Senior Analyst in Academic Personnel. She works on policy development and is responsible for personnel actions for the Arts Division and the Baskin School of Engineering. She is also responsible for the Professional Development Grant Program in conjunction with the Unit 18 Council.

Nancy Degnan is the Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) Manager and Principal Analyst in Academic Personnel. Nancy also coordinates personnel actions for the Library.

Cecilia De La Garza is a Senior Analyst and Coordinator of the Faculty Relocation Assistance Program and the Dual Career Service. Please contact her for faculty relocation or partner employment needs.

Susan Fellows is the Director of Academic Employee Relations and is a Principal Analyst in Academic Personnel. Susan is responsible for policy development and for personnel actions for the Humanities Division. She provides support to University Extension and Summer Session. Susan also works on faculty relations issues and staffs the Charges Committee.

Nancy Furber is the Review Process and Compensation Manager and a Principal Analyst in Academic Personnel. Nancy is responsible for personnel actions for the Physical and Biological Sciences Division. Nancy also oversees additional compensation issues and provides training on academic personnel policies and procedures and on the payroll/personnel system for academic appointees.

Grace Little is a senior analyst in Academic Personnel. Grace is responsible for the personnel actions for the Social Sciences Division. She also works on issues involving academic compensation and participates in staff and faculty training on personnel policies and procedures.

Leslie Marple is a Senior Analyst in Academic Personnel. Leslie works on database development, web design and reporting, and also works with Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS).

Lorayn Tiffany is the Ad Hoc Coordinator/Administrative Specialist in Academic Personnel and is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Provost/EVC's ad hoc review committees for merit, promotion, appointment and mid-career appraisal actions. Lorayn also provides administrative support for the office.

Linda Tursi is the Recruitment Analyst in Academic Personnel. Linda provides assistance with academic recruitments, including coordination of waiver requests and maintenance of the academic employment jobs listing.
